Character Influence Maps

The above influence map is for the surgeon I was thinking to make him look a little geeky but to be very loveable.

The surgeons wife will have a body complex I want her to be overweight, but I also want her to be beautiful I collected images of plus size models because they have the right look but my character will not be as confident with her image.

Animation follow through

I started to work on my follow through animation it's still a working progress I need to apply more squash and stretch, then I will start to work on the follow through in terms of adding ears to the ball coming out of the canon.

Silhouettes for the surgeon

At first when I started to draw my surgeon, I wasn't sure whether I should have him also be a chubby guy or have him be the opposite and just very slender. But I think that it will be visually a very dynamic   contrast to have my characters be the opposite in terms of their size.

Changes to the character biographies

After reading the feedback on my Online  Greenlight review my character biographies weren't coming across in my script so after Tutor Phil's encouragement i've slightly changed the biographies but i've kept the same story structure.
The Surgeon
A surgeon falls in love with a patient, she comes in every few months to the surgery wanting to enhance something new about her body. Although from the beginning she was always beautiful to the surgeon. When he can see that she’s now confident about herself he asks for her hand in marriage. He knew her as a child and always thought that her quirky appearance was attractive. When he can see that she’s now confident about herself he asks for her hand in marriage. The surgeon only wants to make Stella happy and will do anything to do this.

Stella Gleanburg
Stella Gleanburg has always been teased as a young child referred to as the ugly duckling in her family. After being emotionally scared for many years she decided to undergo a few surgical enhancements to make her feel better about herself. After her many trips to her plastic surgeon she began to fall in love with the man that was able to make her beautiful, and was happy to accept his proposal. Although she now had someone who accepted her for who she was, she was still obsessed with her physical appearance.

Psycho Film Review

Psycho film review by Peta-gaye Brown

animated sack test 1

This is the 1st test of my animated sack I realised after that it was missing alot of frames, I havn't added the box that it's jumping over yet. After talking to Meg she helped direct me to understand where I needed imbetweens and where I needed to hold the sack. Animated sack test two has the first part of the animation with more inbetweens and I think that it works alot better now, I'm still working on the rest of the animation.

The character biographies for Idea 8 and the script: Storytelling and Commission

These character biographies go with idea 8 and the script that i've posted.

The Surgeon

A man who loves to make people beautiful, he’s got a very soft nature and fines it hard to say no to people. He falls in love with an elderly woman who was once his nursery school teacher Miss Stella Gleanburg . As a young child he would always make sure to behave and bring her an apple. He was definitely a teacher’s pet, and was proud of it too. He had a 9:00 o’clock appointment for a woman to have liposuction, he was surprise to see her walk into his surgery and take a seat on his table. He was still fond of her even though she in her 60’s, and was happy to mould her back into the woman he fell in love with in nursery.

Stella Gleanburg

Stella Gleanburg is a 65 year old retired nursery school teacher, she was once married but her husband had passed away leaving her a lot of money. She decided that she needed a new start and a new life and the first thing she had to change was her appearance. She booked an appointment to have liposuction she was so happy with the result that she decided that she had to change everything about herself until she looked like she did at 25. She grew obsessive and fell in love with the surgeon that transformed her back into a younger version of herself.

The Script for Idea 8: Storytelling and Commission

I decided to go with idea 8 and to start on a script this is what iv'e come up with.

Script Idea by Peta-gaye Brown

I like the script but its running time is 1:19 seconds I was thinking that I could get rid if the opening scene. If you think there is a part that is not needed please feel free to comment below, also if you think of something that I could change in terms of camera direction to make the scene more effective please feel free to comment.

Storytelling and commission: Potential script ideas

I feel like i'm closing in on an idea i've written up two more ideas in response to Tutor Phil's comment and these stories are very similar in their storyline but use different characters. Any feedback is welcomed also could you comment on what script is liked more. Thank you.

Idea 7

A husband obsessed with making his wife look perfect takes control of her life deciding what make up she wears to what hairstyle she has. After the birth of their child she gained a lot of weight and he was determined to get her back in shape quickly so he decided to book her in for the newest plastic surgery procedure. While his wife was in the machine the ball bearings slipped out of the machine and it malfunctioned. His wife came out looking the best that she had ever looked but she was dead and perfectly preserved. The Doctor in charge was nervous about what the husband would say but to his surprise the husband was ecstatic that she looked like his perfect vision of her, he didn’t mind that she was dead. He paid the surgeon and took his wife home and set her up in his living room so that he could admire her. Her husband decided to commemorate the happy occasion by taking a picture with his dead wife with her baby in her arms. As the days went by he started to miss her company and the conversations they use to have. He realized that having her perfect and dead was the worst thing to ever happen to him. He now had to look after the baby by himself and he had no one to cook his meals. He grew lonely and decided that he couldn’t go on alone anymore so he booked another appointment with the plastic surgery that had turned into a Taxidermist. He wanted to be preserved so that he could stand by his wife’s side forever.

Idea 8

A plastic surgeon falls in love with one of his patients although they had a very large age gap. She was 65 and he was 28 but she didn’t look a day over 25, he had done all of her procedures and fell in love with the woman that she became. They got married but her obsession to stay beautiful and young meant that she would push him to continue doing surgical procedures on her. The newest plastic surgery craze came out a machine that could preserve beauty forever making you look amazing in under 10 minutes. She pushed him to get the machine and reluctantly he did to make her happy. She had to be the first to try the machine but it malfunctioned making her look amazing but she was dad and perfectly preserved. The surgeon was distressed and lost his credibility. He changed his surgery into a Taxidermist and for many years preserved many animals. He kept his wife in his office but he grew old and lonely. He decided he couldn’t live a mournful life anymore stepping into the machine so that he could be young and preserved forever standing side by side with his wife.

Character Biographies: Storytelling and commission

I'm still uncertain about which story to focus on so i've done the character biographies for all of the potential scripts i'm interested in doing.

Idea 5 (alternative ending 1)

Brief synopsis: A shady plastic surgeon acquires a plastic surgery machine that is missing its ball bearings resulting in creating beautiful perfectly preserved dead people. He decides to sell them as mannequins but storing the preserved people in his home drives him crazy ending in suicide.

Character Biography for the Surgeon

Chris Baldwing has always been a shady character, always trying to take shortcuts out of actually working hard. He uses everyone and anyone and never thinks about the consequences of his actions. He covers up his greedy personality to gain trust from others but underneath his eerie smile is a truly devious character. He became a plastic surgeon only for the high paycheque , he isn’t really interested in how to make people beautiful. He squanders his money on late night shopping channels buying mostly miscellaneous things that he thinks he’s getting for a bargain.

Idea 5 (alternative ending 2)

Brief synopsis: A shady plastic surgeon acquires a plastic surgery machine that is missing its ball bearings resulting in creating beautiful perfectly preserved dead people. He decides to sell them as mannequins storing them in his home, but falls in love with one of them eventually putting him self inside the machine making himself preserved so that he can stand by the woman forever.

Character Biography for the surgeon

Chris Baldwing a lonely surgeon who spends his nights watching shopping channels. He’s always had a problem with talking to the opposite sex but adores beauty and making people beautiful. He’s a greedy character and tries to make money in every aspect of his life. He grew up as a middle child and his parents affection always seemed to gravitate to his other siblings leaving him forgotten, so he learnt how to survive on his own which made him very selfish and greedy.

Idea 6

Brief synopsis:  A man obsessed with making his wife perfect sets up a plastic surgery appointment to try a new treatment after she has gained weight. The machine malfunctions making his wife dead but beautifully preserved . Although she’s dead her husband is very happy with the result, taking her home to admire.

Character Biographies

The Husband

A man who has been obsessed with beauty and perfection, he sees his wife as a blank canvas for him to make perfect. He doesn’t really love her but tolerates her because she submits to his every whim. He himself is a very unattractive man,who cares only about his needs and his wants. He thinks of himself as a dictator in his home and his word is final.

The Wife

A very submissive character who doesn’t know how to stand up for herself. She’s afraid of her husband and believes that she couldn’t find anyone better, so stays with him under his subjective rule. She has always been insecure about her looks and has transformed into a physically beautiful person on the outside due to her husbands dictatorship over her consumption of food to the way she should dress everyday.

Personal work

I decided to do some drawing this has nothing to do with my current work but  I just wanted to practice in photoshop.

Life drawing 15.01.2013

Our life drawing class had a focus on portraying words  such as shy, stern and power

warm up sketches
This image was a focus on the word shy, when I think about being shy it makes me think about falling into the background.

This image had a focus on the word stern, when thinking about the word I thought about straight lines and hard edges. I tried to make the shadows very hard and have a lot of straight lines in the image in emphasising a rigid body.

The last image had a focus on power I thought about the upper body and posture being a way of projecting power . I wanted strong lines on the shoulders and shadows to emphasise the posture in the image.

Potential script ideas: Ideas 5 and 6 with alternative endings

Idea 5 (alternative ending number 1)

He doesn’t see the need to read the instructions and sets up the machine with a vital missing part the ball bearings. He begins to use the machine but every patient he has, comes out looking beautiful but dead and perfectly preserved. He decides to hide the bodies in his flat. And continues to use the machine, gaining more and more customers and making a lot of money. But filling his apartment to the brim with preserved people. He has the idea to sell them as mannequins, choosing homeless people as targets to make beautiful and to sell their mannequins for a high price. His home becomes filled with preserved people and the Doctor starts to believe that they are moving things in his house. But they’re not they’re all dead, but living in a confined space with these mannequins has started to make the doctor delusional. One night he thought he saw one of the mannequins moving closer to his cooker and starts a fire.(The doctor started the fire in a mentally delusional state and blames the mannequins) His house burns down but he is horribly disfigured. He decides to bring back his beauty by using  the plastic surgery machine therefore ending up beautifully preserved but dead.

                                                    Idea 5(Alternative ending 2)

He doesn’t see the need to read the instructions and sets up the machine with a vital missing part the ball bearings. He begins to use the machine but every patient he has comes out looking beautiful but dead and perfectly preserved. He decides to hide the bodies in his flat. And continues to use the machine gaining more and more customers and making a lot of money but filling his apartment to the brim with preserved people. He then has the idea to sell them as mannequins. He continued to store the bodies in his apartment and that’s when he saw the woman of his dreams. She was a 69 year old grandmother when she came into the surgery but the machine made her look 25. He was in awe of her even though she was dead. He decided to set up a romantic meal for two that evening pushing all the mannequins  to stand beside the wall. The scene looked like a mob watching two people eat. He made dinner for two and lit candles everywhere to set a romantic mood. He had dinner every night with the mannequin and refused to sell her to vendors. He decided that he had to be with her forever so decided to go inside the plastic surgery machine so that he could remain preserved and stand by her side forever.

Potential script ideas: Storytelling and commission

Idea 5 stemmed from a conversation that I had with a classmate, and idea 6  was the result of Tutor Phil's response to my former script ideas.

Idea 5

And continues to use the machine gaining more and more customers and making a lot of money but filling his apartment to the brim with preserved people. He then has the idea to sell them as mannequins. (I can’t think of how this could end but I think that the surgeon would be punished in some way)

Finding Nemo 'like-for-like' storyboard

I decided to do my like for like storyboard on the Current scene in finding Nemo. I chose to start the scene from 0:10-0:40 from the video below.

Potential script idea: Storytelling and commission

After receiving  feedback about script idea three from my peers I incorporated the ideas we talked about to create this idea.

Idea 4 (a development of idea 3)

A Taxidermist was trying to develop a machine that could preserve the skins of the animals that he captured from his hunting expeditions. Unfortunately the machine wouldn’t work as he wanted but he discovered that it had a different purpose when his wife fell into the machine while dusting his office. She came out looking like she did 30 years ago when he met her in her 20’s. Realising the potential for the machine, the Taxidermist set up a cosmetic surgery under a false alias as a Doctor. So that potential patients wouldn’t question the safety of his machine. He made a good living from his cosmetic surgery machine, his clients were all rich wealthy old women who wanted to go back to the days of there youthful appearance. They were the only people who could afford the high price tag for gaining their youthful looks back.

His Cat lulu loved to play in his office where he kept his favourite preserved hunting finds , he had captured  a little bird that morning  and laid it in a bag on his office table. The cat being curious decided to investigate the contents of the bag. The bird was in fact still a live, the cat and the bird wondered into the surgery room as a patient was under going their transformation in the machine. In the Cats attempt to capture the little bird he fell into the machine with the bird in his paws. They both fell into the heart of the machine, pushing the ball bearings out of the machine, this then fused the two parts of the machine together making the machine work differently. The Result of the cat and bird falling into the machine was eminent. When the machine doors opened a young female part cat and bird was inside. The ‘Doctor’ unsure of what to do with this creature, knocked it unconscious with the nearest object he could find. He then decided to mount it and display it in his office, claiming it to be a creature he killed on one of his hunting expeditions.
