Cinematic Spaces: Queen Coo-ee-oh's initial dome sketches

Queen Coo-ee-oh lives on her own island that is covered mainly by a huge round dome. I started to sketch ideas of what this island with the dome might look like.  I liked some sketches and disliked the rest because I felt like I was getting repetitive. So i decided to collect some miscellaneous objects in my room and create silhouettes that i could use as a starting point for my island and dome.

I really liked working on top of the silhouettes to create these islands with the domes. It was a lot easier to have a base to work with, I want to push a few of these and play around with them because I think they have the potential to become really interesting islands.

  1. Hey Pete-gaye - LOVE your method here :) And thumbnail 'L' has lots of charm. I suppose you might need to be aware of going too 'sci-fi' - considering your very whimsical source material of OZ-themed spaces, but this represents a really creative, really enterprising way in to thinking differently about these spaces. I know that the OZ descriptions are actually not so detailed - which creates challenges and restrictions - but also freedoms too :)

  2. I'm just going to put this out there... that's brilliant! sticking these objects together and creating those island domes out of silhouettes! they're fantastic and really visually interesting to look at. Nice job!

  3. I somehow like everything that's on the page number 4. There's something really interesting in the way you put gray on it, though ideas themselves are great as well.
I can't wait to see more from you : )
